Breast Cancer UK was formed in April 1999 to represent UK consumer views in breast cancer research, and became a registered charity in August 2001.
Breast Cancer UK aims to identify and influence the research agenda in the areas of causes, prevention, and treatment of breast cancer, with particular emphasis on the involvement of those with breast cancer in the research process.
Its objectives are:
- Relieving need among those suffering from breast cancer, and their families, by providing a forum for patients to comment upon and influence the direction of research into the causes and treatment of their condition.
- Advancing the education of the public (including patients, their families, and the medical research establishment) about breast cancer and, in particular, how it affects patients.
- Conducting or commissioning research (including the analysis of clinical data and research) into the causes and treatment of breast cancer, and publishing the results.
Breast Cancer UK launched their No More Breast Cancer Campaign in the autumn of 2005 with the publication of a Report entitled Breast cancer: an environmental disease. Our Campaign argument is that breast cancer should be considered as an environmental disease because it is impacted by the high levels of carcinogens and endocrine-disrupting hazardous chemicals (EDC's) that we are exposed to every day.
