Cancer now affects 2 in 5 people in UK

Since 1962, when Rachel Carson’s book Silent Spring was published, the link between carcinogens, environmental pollutants, toxic chemicals and breast cancer has been considered controversial. But the last two decades have seen a massive growth in the research and knowledge that surrounds these links and the US President's Cancer Panel of 2010 concluded that the environmental impact on cancer has been ‘grossly underestimated’.

In February this year and again this week official figures have shown that breast cancer is still increasing, affecting 1 in 8 women now, and cancer in general is expected to affect almost half of all people in the UK in the near future.

But successive Governments have studiously ignored these facts and chosen instead to accept the myth that nothing can be done to prevent cancer. This stance is now completely unacceptable and all political parties should make the phasing out, banning, and reduction of these hazardous chemicals a top priority so that we can save lives and save the NHS money.
