Do you want to help drive breast cancer research forward?
Are you a researcher who has a strong interest in the impact of environmental chemicals or lifestyle on our health and especially our breast cancer risk? Are you an enthusiastic scientist who is keen to uphold high standards in the peer review process?
Breast Cancer UK is a national breast cancer charity focussed entirely on breast cancer prevention:
We are seeking to scale up our scientific research panel to broaden our pool of scientific researchers on whom we depend for the independent review of both our scientific materials, and our grant funding program.
If your goal is to help a growing prevention-focused charity through providing your expertise and opinion, then we want to meet you.
You will be an individual with a scientific background and a good understanding of the scientific data behind our areas of interest. Specialist scientific backgrounds would be desirable such as environmental science, oncology, endocrinology, epidemiology, microbiology, biochemistry and medicine.
You should have experience in science writing with skills in communicating scientific information. Previous experience of peer reviewing applications and publications is desirable. An understanding or experience of the grant making processes would be an advantage.
Panel members must maintain their independence. You will not be required to attend any Board of Trustee meetings and shall have no executive function or role. Panel members are not renumerated in any form.
To apply for science panel membership please email a CV alongside a single-page letter addressing your suitability for the role. Please also complete an equal opportunities form and submit via email to r[email protected]. The full role description and the equal opportunities form can be downloaded from our website https://www.breastcanceruk.org.uk/about-breast-cancer-uk/work-for-us/.
Short interviews will be conducted after shortlisting, these will be 15-minute phone calls with the Head of Science, Dr Hannah Moody, to be arranged to suit both parties. If successful, your membership to the science panel will be immediate.
