Lunch for life

Make your own lunch

Easy ideas to help you make your own lunch

You don’t need to rush somewhere at noon to get an unhealthy snack, if you have prepared something ahead of time. It is much easier, quicker and cheaper than you might think!

Time well used

Salads, sandwiches and wraps can be prepared at home and packed in reusable lunch boxes.  If you have a kitchen in the office, you can simply warm up your lunch or add spices on the spot. Here we have some recipe ideas for you, that taste great, are easy and quick to prepare (Promise!) and provide you with all the right nutrients. Kindly provided by our friends at Riverford Organic Farmers.

You can also bring and/or make your own snacks/dessert. If you don’t have time just grab a tasty piece of fruit at home. If you do have a bit more time, try making something tasty at home that you can treat yourself too.

Science Info: Make it organic: Although there is not conclusive evidence that organic food offers protection against breast cancer, certain studies suggest it may. Organic food contains less pesticide residue and therefore it is less likely to contain endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) which may be linked to breast cancer.

Get a pretty glass or stainless steel lunch box and your own reusable water bottle

You eat with your eyes (firstly)! Having a nice lunch box makes preparing food and eating your home-made-lunch much more fun. Ditch your plastic bags and cling film and try a re-usable beeswax wrap, fun and better for you and the environment, like the ones we show here from our friends at Beeswax Wraps UK. Prepare your water at home before you go to work. Get a glass or a colourful stainless-steel water bottle that you can fill up every morning.

Tip: Make keeping hydrated fun: prepare your water at home before you go to work. A slice of lemon, ginger or mint immediately peps up tap water. Install a daily app that reminds you of drinking enough water.

Science Info –Avoid plastic lunch boxes, bottles and wrapping where possible: they could contain harmful plasticisers like phthalates, or be made from bisphenols such as BPA or BPS, that can leach into your food and drink. These chemicals are EDCs, that mimic oestrogen and could play a role in your breast cancer risk.
