Collection Box Volunteer

Collection boxes are a great way to help raise money for Breast Cancer UK and to spread our message about breast cancer prevention.   If you know a local shop, post office, community centre or farm shop that might be willing to host a collection tin for us and you're happy to pop in and count, collect and bank the funds raised, then please do consider becoming a Collection Box Volunteer.

What's involved

The role of a Collection Tin Volunteer is to place and empty any number of charity collection tins across various public locations within their local community.  Whether it's 1 tin or 10, every little helps!

You'll be:

  • pretty good at establishing relationships with shop owners and/or other venues to encourage them to have a collection can in their store/venue
  • happy to empty and replace of collection tins
  • able to keep accurate records (e.g. Microsoft Excel spreadsheet) of collection tin locations, dates placed/emptied and how much was raised
  • willing to bank the money/donations raised
  • ready to write receipts and give thank you letters and certificates to shops/venues for ‘milestone’ amounts raised
  • looking to use relationships with shops/venues to promote fundraising campaigns and support for Breast Cancer UK!

Skills Required:

  • Enthusiasm for the work of Breast Cancer UK
  • A friendly, outgoing, self-motivated & proactive personality, reliable and trustworthy.
  • Basic record-keeping.
  • Influencing and persuading skills (The role involves establishing & maintaining relationships within your local community)

How will the Fundraising Team support me?

You will be fully supported by Breast Cancer UK Fundraising Team and have a dedicated staff member to support your role and offer you advice and guidance.
You will be provided with materials – collection tins, a receipt book, spreadsheet templates, collection tin seals, thank you paper, certificates, and Breast Cancer UK volunteer identification
You will also receive a volunteer induction providing information about the work of the charity. You will be informed of our current fundraising campaigns and events, and provided with posters and leaflets to promote these (where appropriate).  Bascially you'll be supported every step of the way!

How much time do I need to commit & where will I be based?

Your role is based in your local community. As a volunteer you would be responsible for managing the hours that you give. We would expect that the role will take no more than a few hours each month.
