Are you a scientist with an interest in educating the general public on the various lifestyle factors that influence breast cancer risk? Then this opportunity could be for you!
We are looking for a Scientific Research Officer who will play a critical role in the development and drafting of both written and video content on breast cancer risk factors, with a strong focus on scientific and nutritional content communication, including recipe generation. This content will be used on our website and social media channels, aimed at a lay audience.
This role requires an innovative, creative and highly organised individual with experience in scientific writing and developing content for social media. The post holder will also support the current science programme in several ways, including assisting with our Public Engagement Panel (PEP) and grant funding programme, campaign support and conference organisation and delivery.
If you are skilled in translating complex and technical information into simple English and communicating this to a lay audience, we want to hear from you. This role is completely home-based so having the confidence and drive to work independently in a remote working environment with a virtual team is essential.
The Scientific Research Officer will form part of the Science Team comprising another Scientific Research Officer and Science Manager which sits within the Directorate of Research and Engagement.
What are we looking for ?

Honours degree or equivalent in biological, medical, exercise or food science or public health.

Research experience in a scientific discipline such as biological, medical, nutritional, exercise, or health science.

Demonstratable experience of scientific writing, including writing for both a scientific audience and the general public.

Demonstratable experience in recipe generation and filming for use on social media.

Demonstratable experience in creating engaging content including video content for use on social media.

Able to quickly understand and communicate scientifically complex issues to a lay audience.

Good verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write accurately about complex or technical topics in simple English.

Confidence in communicating in a variety of formats with a wide range of people including experts, the public, academics and members of other charities.

Self-driven and adaptable with the ability to work effectively in a remote setting.
