Philanthropy.
You have the opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our prevention movement.
Somewhere right now, a researcher has a question that could change how we understand breast cancer risk and no funding to answer it.
Your philanthropic gift could be the reason that question gets answered.

We believe the most powerful way to prevent breast cancer is to fund research into the disease. As the only UK charity dedicated entirely to prevention, every philanthropic gift of £5,000 or more that we receive work that is often overlooked. Work that asks not, "how do we treat this?" but "how do we stop it from happening?"
If you're an individual philanthropist or represent a charitable trust, a partnership with Breast Cancer UK could directly impact that work, prevent devastating diagnoses and save lives.
We also welcome grants from Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs), offering a flexible, tax-efficient way to support our work.
Research others have helped fund
Through the generous support of our philanthropic partners, we’ve been able to fund vital research projects that are helping to uncover the causes of breast cancer and how to prevent it. Including:
- Dr. Cioccoloni, University of Leeds - investigating the relationship between bisphenol exposure, obesity, and breast cancer risk.
- Professor Spiers, University of Aberdeen - examining whether exposure to BPA is linked to breast cancer development.
"For too long, the conversation around breast cancer has focused almost entirely on genetic factors, creating the false impression that cancer is simply a matter of bad luck, written into your DNA. But the science is telling a much richer and more uncomfortable story...What Breast Cancer UK does brilliantly is translate that science into something a person can actually act on... Their work reaches people long before a diagnosis ever might, and that is exactly where prevention has to happen."
- Dr Mhairi Morris, Reader in Exercise Oncology, Loughborough University, Breast Cancer UK Seed Award holder, 2025 (Toxic Beauty and the Breast)
These are exactly the kind of studies that uncover why breast cancer happens, work that drives our campaigning work, and shapes prevention guidance and public health policy. Alongside our national efforts to make prevention a priority, we translate complex scientific findings into accessible information to support individuals with reducing their own risk, taking this knowledge directly to communities through our Education programme.
Projects like these only go ahead because someone decides to fund them.
We'll work with you to:
- Choose a project that matches what you care about. Whether that's environmental risk factors or lifestyle research. Philanthropic gifts of £5,000 or more can transform breast cancer research.
- Follow the science as it happens. Regular progress reports and direct insight from the researchers your gift funds.
Why this moment matters
Prevention research receives a fraction of the funding that treatment research does. Your support could be the difference that makes a talented scientist commit to a career focused on breast cancer prevention, the difference that makes a breakthrough happen.
